NYPD Kills Groom on Wedding Day

November 25, 2006 | Category:IN THE NEWS | Author: Josh Cox

Okay, so what’s really up with the police nowadays? I mean it seems everytime I turn on the TV somebody’s getting beaten for no reason and whatnot, and the Atlanta Police are really in hot water now for killing that 92 year old woman, and now this:

Directly from Yahoo! News, http://news.yahoo.com/

NEW YORK - A bachelor party at a strip club ended early Saturday with police opening fire on a group of men leaving the establishment, killing a groom on his wedding day and wounding two others, one critically.

There was no immediate explanation for what sparked the shooting, which drew angry protests from family members and the Rev.? Al Sharpton. The New York Police Department’s chief spokesman, Paul Browne, declined to comment.

As many as eight officers may have been involved in the shooting near the Kalua Cabaret in Queens, said Sgt. Mike Wysokowski, another department spokesman. There were no reports that any officers were wounded, Officer Kathleen Price said.

“First it was like four shots,” said Abraham Kamara, 38, who lives a few blocks from the scene of the shooting and said he was getting ready for work at the time. “And then it was like pop-pop-pop like 12 times.”

The intersection where the shooting occurred remained blocked off Saturday afternoon as police inspected a car and a minivan and placed dozens of crime scene markers on the ground where shell casings had been recovered.

Denise Ford, who said her son was one of the survivors, said the trio’s car had hit an unmarked police vehicle. Police did not immediately confirm that either of the vehicles in the intersection belonged to the department.

“All I know, they was celebrating,” Ford said of the men. She said the man who died was the groom. “The guy was getting married today.”

Relatives identified the man killed early Saturday as Sean Bell, 23. Sharpton said Bell and his fiancee had two children, ages 5 months and 3 years.

Sharpton said after visiting the two wounded men — Trent Benefield, 23, and Joseph Guzman, 31 — that he was outraged to find the pair handcuffed to their hospital beds. He said one suffered 17 wounds, though it was unclear how many were bullet wounds, and the other man was shot three times.

“We’re not anti-police … we’re anti-police brutality,” Sharpton said.

Sharpton said family members told him that there were no guns in the young men’s car and “there was no reason for the police to shoot.”

“On the face of it, it seems to me to be certainly something that causes extreme alarm and must be thoroughly investigated,” said the civil rights leader, who said he was called by a relative of Bell.

Robert Porter, who identified himself as a cousin of Bell, said about 250 people were invited to Saturday’s wedding and were flying in from all over the country. He said his cousin wasn’t the type to confront police and was “on the straight and narrow.”

Roy Brown, who said he works as a photographer at the club, said sirens sounded not long after the three men left the club.

“They weren’t rowdy or nothing like that,” said Brown, 57.

The owner of the building, Juan Escobar, would not say who owned the Kalua Cabaret. A message seeking comment was left at a phone number listed for the club.

One of the wounded men was in critical condition at Mary Immaculate Hospital and the other was listed as stable.

In 1999, NYPD officers killed Amadou Diallo, an unarmed West African immigrant who was shot 19 times in the entry to his apartment building. The four officers in that case were acquitted of criminal charges.

In 2003, Ousmane Zongo, 43, a native of the western African country of Burkina Faso, was killed during a police raid on a warehouse where he repaired art and musical instruments. Zongo was shot four times, twice in the back.

November 23, 2006 | Category:THROWBACK THURSDAYS | Author: Josh Cox

Since this the first “Throwback Thursday,” let me explain how this will work. Every Thursday I’ll post two old school music videos of my picking, or you can request one by sending me an e-mail at thadoghouse@gmail.com..

The first pick is “After Party” by Koffee Brown. Yall remember them right? This song was pretty big back in 2001, but unfortunately the album Mars/Venus that came out the same year was their last… I really liked them, and I remember I bought that album… anyway here’s the vid:

Okay my next pick is from Missy Elliott and is called “Beep Me 911.” It featured 702, Timbaland, and Magoo. This song is hot and I miss videos like this… Oh and this song was from her 1997 Debut, Supa Dupa Fly.

Kelly vs. Clay, Kelly vs. Rosie

November 23, 2006 | Category:TV NEWS | Author: Josh Cox

So it definitely hasn’t been that great of a week for Kelly Rippa, co-host of the syndicated Live With Regis & Kelly. Okay, so I’m a bit late with this but anyway, things started out on Friday’s episode where former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken filled in for Regis as a guest co-host. I saw video clips of the episode, and I must say that Kelly and Clay didn’t get along to begin with. Clay was pretty rude to Kelly all throughout the show, but the moment that caused the most controversey was when Clay put his hand over Kelly’s mouth so that he could get a few words in. Here is how Rippa responded to the incident on Monday’s episode:

And to make things worse, on an episode of the View, Rosie O’ Donnel called Rippa’s outrage at Clay’s actions homophobic. In response to O’Donnel’s accusation, Rippa made a surprise call in to the show:

I’m definitely gonna have to agree all the way with Kelly on this one. I mean yeah, she talks a lot, but that’s what got her the job, that’s what makes her a successful host. And then, she’s a regular on the show he’s just a guest host. Let her do the interviews because she’s a pro at it. If that dude would’ve put his hand over my mouth, my hand would’ve went went upside his face! And I think Rosie’s “homophobic” accusations were ludicrous. And I thought it was pretty funny that Rosie O’ Donnel pretty much let the whole world know that Clay really is gay…

Rihanna Covers Fashion 18

Okay, I’ve never read nor have I ever heard of this magazine, but Rihanna is looking niiiccee on this cover.

It’s good to see that Rihanna is still getting magazine covers, I thought her buzz had kind of dissipated after the “We Ride” single completely flopped.

Check out more pictures from her spread in Fashion 18 at Cake & Ice Cream.

Man’s Skeletal Remains Discovered in Woman’s Bed

November 23, 2006 | Category:IN THE NEWS | Author: Josh Cox

Directly From Yahoo! News, http://news.yahoo.com

NEW YORK - A man hoping to reconcile with his parents after years of estrangement made a grisly find: His mother may have been living with his father’s corpse for three years, police said.

When Paul Iversen went to the Brooklyn apartment Tuesday, his 73-year-old mother, Joanne, told him his father, Frank, had died, police said. She showed her son the skeletal remains of an adult man stored under bed covers in her bedroom, according to police.

The medical examiner was to conduct tests to confirm the identity of the remains, police Sgt. Mike Wysokowski said. No charges had been filed.

Neighbors said Joanne Iversen had told them her husband was away.

“I said, ‘I haven’t seen your husband,’ and she said, ‘He’s in Philadelphia.’ She told others ‘Long Island,’” said an upstairs neighbor, Vincent Clements.

Several neighbors said they had noticed a foul smell emanating from the Iversens’ first-floor apartment but couldn’t fathom the source.

“We complained a lot, but I never would have guessed there was a body inside,” neighbor Carole Clements said.

Okay, what the hell? This chick is crazy! You have to be really in love with somebody to live with their DEAD BODY for three years, or you might just be trying to cover up a murder… hmmmm?

92-Year-Old Woman Killed in Atlanta Police Shootout

November 23, 2006 | Category:IN THE NEWS | Author: Josh Cox

Kathryn Johnston, 92, was killed in her Northwest Atlanta home last Tuesday, November 21.

Three udercover? police officers with a? search warrant? knocked down her door, and Johnston opened fire. The police then returned fire, killing the woman.

Officers came to the house with a search warrant after? buying drugs there from a man believed to be in his mid-30s and goes by the name of Sam.

? The Northwest Atlanta neighborhood that Johnston called home was described by some residents as the most dangerous area in the state of Georgia, which in my opinion explains why Johntson was armed. I mean, how would you react if you live in an extremely dangerous neighborhood, and someone just comes out of no where and busts into your house? Exactly. And it’s sad that she lived that long and had to go out that way.

Rumors: BET’s Terrence J. Gay?

November 23, 2006 | Category:LOOK AT ALL THESE RUMORS, TV NEWS | Author: Josh Cox
An article that will allegedly appear next issue of JET Magazine has been floating around message boards and blogs all across the Internet and features and interview with BET 106 & Park Co-Host Terrence J., who “comes out the closet.” Personally, I think that the article is completely bogus, but I’ll post it anyway:

Rising BET Star Terrance J Announces He is Gay

The rising television act, and current co-host of the popular young adult BET television show 106&Park, has admitted to being gay. The host, Terrence J sat down with a Jet Magazine interviewer Natasha Maddox earlier this week and confirmed the unexpected news. Maddox started the interview with the co-host Monday by just asking simple laid back questions about the host. Terrance explained that he had a very rough childhood, living in a household with his single mom. He explains, It was very tough for us. We were very poor and my mother struggled to put food on the table. It was also exceptionally hard not having that father figure around. He goes on to explain that he also had trouble keeping his grades up in school. He exclaims, Ever since I was a little boy I wanted to be on T.V. He later jokes, A lot of people dont know this but I at first I wanted to be a rapper. It was always a passion but I didnt have the gift he laughed. Later in the interview Maddox confronts Terrance about the rumors circulating around New York that he is gay. He explains, Yes I am gay, and I ultimately dont think that there isnt any problem with that. Growing up in New York, people never judged you because the city is so diverse. I think that being gay is not a choice; its just something you are born with. Its just a fact that at the end of the day, I prefer a man instead of a woman. Maddox asks the question if BET knew about his sexuality. He replies, Yes they did. In the very beginning when they first interviewed me, I told them up front that I was in fact gay. They replied, saying that it didnt matter, willing to negotiate with the ordeal because it is in fact a real matter that is impacting the African American community today. This is why I am not ashamed of admitting my sexuality, because I know that I am not the only one, and everyone at BET accepts who I am. Maddox later asks how he thinks the public will respond to his coming out. He responds, At the end of the day, I am the same person that I was before this interview as I am now. I think its just something that the public just has to ultimately except. This and the rest of the interview will hit stands December 28.

Like I said above, I don’t think this is true. There’s way too many errors, I mean how do you mispell someone’s name in the headline? I don’t know, it just sounds a bit bogus to me.

Richards apologizes for racial rant…

November 22, 2006 | Category:IN THE NEWS, TV NEWS | Author: Josh Cox

Michael Richards, best known for his role on Seinfield as “Kramer,” apologized via satellite last night on the Late Show With David Letterman for his outrageous racially charged rant that occurred at the Laugh Factory. I don’t want to repeat the horribly offensive things Richards said, but for those who haven’t seen it, the video is below:
