The Statue of Liberty falls victim to an unwanted creature that terrorizes New York City in Paramount Pictures Cloverfield
Estimates released early Sunday show that the Paramount Pictures film Cloverfield will open atop the weekend box office, pulling in $41 million, a record opening for a film release in January.
Through a handheld camera of a partygoer, the film gives a first-hand view of a creature ripping trough the streets of New York City.
Debuting in second place this weekend is 27 Dresses. The romantic comedy starring Katherine Heigl made just over $22 million.
Mad Money, another new release which stars Queen Latifah, Katie Holmes, and Diane Keaton, debuted at number 7, only pulling in $7.7 million.
Gangsta Rap: The Glockumentary is a “mockumentary” following the happenings of a West-coast rap trio called Gangsta Rap. I saw the previews for this, and it’s a hot mess… but it’s funny. It comes out in Los Angeles on March 2, 2007. Check out the trailer after the jump, as well as link to one of the movies songs called “In My Houseshoes.” LOL! Thanks to Roberto at Cornerstone for sending me this.
Despite mediocre ratings from critics, Stomp The Yard debuted at number one on this weekend’s box office, bringing in $22 million. The movie, which stars Brian White, Columbus Short, Megean Good, and Ne-Yo, knocked last week’s number one, Night at the Museum, down to number two. Meanwhile, Justin Timberlake’s new movie umm how can I say this, FLOPPED! Alpha Dog, in which Bruce Willis and Sharon Stone starred alongside Timberlake, opened at No. 7 making only $6.1 million.
